Fitting Carriage to Rail

WARNING! Take care when handling the carriage assembly, as this is a heavy component.

The Carriage Assembly is the main body of the stair lift, that contains the motor and gearbox, the battery pack and the electronic components that control its operation. Carry the carriage assembly, seat and fitting kit to the top of the stairway.

Unscrew and remove the black upper 'limit stop' ramp from the top surface of the rail and carefully place to one side with the fixing screw. Now the carriage needs to be positioned onto the rail. If you first look at the underside of the carriage you will see how the guide rollers fit around the rail tubes.

WARNING! Take great care not to damage any of the three micro-switches that protrude from the underneath of the carriage body.

Stair lift microswitches

Carefully slide the carriage onto the rail until it stops. This is where the motor drive pinion (the large metal cog that drives the stair lift) attempts to locate on the toothed rack on the rail.

WARNING! At this point visually check that all chassis rollers are squarely located around the rail, that the limit switches are not bent and are all in line on top of the rail.

IF THESE CHECKS ARE NOT MADE AND THE PINION WHEEL IS ALLOWED TO ENGAGE THE RACK INCORRECTLY, THE LIFT MAY BE SERIOUSLY DAMAGED.
