Curved Stair Lift
On the face of it, curved rail stair lifts provide an appropriate solution for staircases that are anything but a straight run. However, you should consider all options when choosing a stair chairlift solution for your home.
Curved Stair Lifts are very complex pieces of equipment. Consequently, they are hugely expensive (12-15 thousand) when compared to straight stair lifts and there are other aspects of these lifts that you should consider carefully before making your decision.
Curved Stair Lifts are custom-built for your particular staircase, it cannot be relocated and therefore has no value if and when you no longer need it. Well it can be taken to the recycler for 40 cents a pound.
Due to their mechanical complexity, curved rail units are not as reliable as straight stair lifts. Whether we like it or not, the reality is that curved rail lifts are often troublesome in their operation.
Curved rail lifts require a highly detailed on-site survey, prior to order and can take up to 3 months to be built and delivered. It is neither practical nor advisable to self-install this type of stair lift. We currently do not have knowledge of any company that will sell a curved unit for self-installation.
If your staircase has a sub-landing (a flat platform) where it turns, you should consider the option of installing two straight stair lifts, as an alternative to one curved unit. This assumes that the user is capable of transferring from one stair lift to the other on the flat landing, of course.
